About Jewish Dissent

What Jewish Dissent Is

Jewish Dissent is a public record of documented Jewish dissent from Zionism and opposition to Israeli apartheid, occupation, ethnic cleansing, and genocide.

It exists to make visible what is routinely denied or erased: that Jewish dissent is real, organised, and ethically grounded, and that it appears repeatedly in the public record despite sustained efforts to marginalise or obscure it.

The directory does not claim to represent Jews as such, nor to catalogue all dissent. Inclusion reflects what is already publicly expressed, not the full scope of what may exist privately or anonymously.

What Jewish Dissent Is Not

Jewish Dissent is not a movement, a membership organisation, or a representative body. It does not speak on behalf of Jews, prescribe a single political programme, or require ideological uniformity.

The directory does not infer beliefs, interpret silence, or speculate about private views. It records dissent only where it is publicly expressed and verifiable.

Basis for Inclusion

Entries in Jewish Dissent are evidence-based.

Individuals and organisations are listed on the basis of publicly documented opposition to Israeli state practices that constitute apartheid, occupation, ethnic cleansing, or genocide, and of affirmative recognition of Palestinian collective rights.

Dissent may take many forms, including public statements, writing, protest, institutional refusal, advocacy, cultural or academic resistance, or other actions carried out in public and at identifiable cost.

The directory recognises that dissent does not take a single form or language. What matters is not unanimity of expression or strategy, but ethical clarity as it appears in the public record.

Jewish Dissent is categorised according to the nature and scope of opposition, to reflect differences in strategy, geography, and structural impact. See the Criteria for Inclusion page for full details of classification.

Public Identification and Sources

Jewish Dissent records dissent that is already present in the public domain.

Individuals and organisations may be listed on the basis of verifiable statements or actions that are publicly available in print, broadcast, or online media, including personal or organisational websites, interviews, publications, public events, and other documented interventions.

Where possible, individuals and organisations are informed of their inclusion and invited to claim or expand their profile. Requests for correction or removal are honoured where appropriate.

The directory does not publish private information, speculate about unexpressed views, or attribute positions beyond what is supported by public evidence. Jewish Dissent treats public speech as public record, while remaining responsive to good-faith concerns about accuracy, context, or risk.

Scope and Limits

Jewish Dissent draws a firm ethical line without imposing ideological identity.

Inclusion does not require:

  • adopting the label “anti-Zionist”;
  • endorsing a particular political resolution;
  • subscribing to a comprehensive ideological or theological framework.

The directory records dissent as it exists. It does not manufacture consensus, impose coherence, or convert ethical refusal into collective identity.

Purpose

The purpose of Jewish Dissent is not to persuade, organise, or moralise, but to make denial harder.

By assembling dissent cumulatively, the directory reveals a pattern that cannot be dismissed as exceptional or anomalous: a sustained Jewish refusal to excuse or obscure grave injustice, documented in the open and preserved as public record.

Uniqueness Statement

In April 2026, we conducted a systematic audit to determine whether any existing platform combines:

  • a Jewish-identified focus
  • anti-genocide and Jewish dissent as its core mission
  • a global, searchable directory
  • individuals and organizations
  • structured profiles
  • evidence-based inclusion criteria
  • ongoing, user-driven submissions

We found no platform that meets all of these criteria.

For this reason, we describe Jewish Dissent as a unique directory of documented Jewish dissent and anti-genocide opposition — as of April 2026.

We will periodically revisit this claim and update it if comparable projects emerge.
